P-43: The Association of Birth Weight with Maternal Age, Parity, Sex Neonatal

Background: Fetal growth and birth weight is associated with a lot of factors and specific conditions that can exist or are produced pregnancy. The purpose of this study was assessment of birth weight and its relation to gender, parity and maternal age in Kosar hospital, Qazvin in 2010. Materials and Methods: In this cross sectional study, 3076 women with the normal vaginal delivery (NVD) entred into the study population. A researcher made checklist was used as survey tool. SPSS software version 17 was used for Statistical analysis. Data analysis was performed by using descriptive and analytical statistics (mean ± SD, Chi-square test, independent t test, ANOVA, post hoc scheffe). All levels of testing means were considered less or equal to 0.05. Results: 81.2 percent of women were Null parity and 53.3 percent of newborn was boys. Average neonatal birth weight was 3248.18 ± 458gr and maternal age was 25.33 ± 5.7 years. There was a significant difference in birth weight between genders, numbers of parity and age groups. Conclusion: The results of this study show that however birth weight is influenced by sex, parity and maternal age, but may be other factors such as socioeconomic condition, maternal education and work are effective on birth weight and also should be considered.
